An over-temp switch cuts power to the thermostat above 450 degrees and restores it when the iron cools, protecting the iron if a thermostat fails. Its 3/16" brass pads are the same stock we ran on the automatic stamping machines: they hold heat steadier, keep their shape through all-day runs where thinner brass can slowly deform, and re-polish easily at rebuild time.
